Project summary:
The history of chinchilla breeding in Hungary takes back for only 50 years, breeding is mainly based on the observations of Hungarian chinchilla breeders and experiences of foreign farms. The goal of the project is developing an insemination method that can be a real alternative of conventional coupling, resulting a significant growth of efficiency in chinchilla farms. With the introduction of insemination the damage of the fur can be reduced and the control over the production can be more easy and effective in farms. Our project requires both ethology and reproduction researches: besides examining the reproduction natures of both male and female chinchillas, we are examining the mating behavior. These all can help developing a technology adaptable for farms.
